Privacy Policy
In short: your location never leaves your device, nothing you do is tracked, and the only data transmitted anywhere is anonymous crash and performance diagnostics.
This privacy policy applies to the CTA Helper app (hereby referred to as "Application") for mobile devices that was created by Timothy Morgan (hereby referred to as "Service Provider") as an Open Source service. This service is intended for use "AS IS".
What information does the Application obtain and how is it used?
The Application collects limited data to provide its core functionality and improve reliability. The specific categories of data are described below.
Location Data
The Application uses your device's location, with your permission, solely to list the airports nearest you. Location data is resolved entirely on your device and is never transmitted to the Service Provider, to any server, or to any third party. Granting location access is optional: every other part of the Application works without it, and airports can always be found by identifier or city name instead.
Crash and Diagnostic Data
The Application uses Sentry, a third-party error monitoring service, to collect crash reports, performance data, and diagnostic information. This data helps the Service Provider identify and fix bugs. Sentry may collect device information, app state at the time of a crash, and performance traces. This data is not linked to your identity and is used solely for app stability and performance improvement.
Network Requests
The Application downloads three kinds of public data: navigation data cycles, published as GitHub releases; aviation weather observations (METARs), published by aviationweather.gov; and instrument approach plates, published by the FAA at aeronav.faa.gov. These requests carry no account, identifier, or personal information. Requesting a weather observation necessarily discloses the airport identifier being requested to that service, and requesting an approach plate necessarily discloses which plate is being requested to the FAA. Approach plates are downloaded only when you open or download them, never in the background, and are stored on your device until you clear them or the AIRAC cycle they belong to is superseded.
Tracking
The Application does not track you. It does not use advertising identifiers, does not engage in cross-app tracking, and does not share data with advertisers or data brokers. The Application has no user accounts and collects no personally identifiable information.
Do third parties see and/or have access to information obtained by the Application?
Crash and diagnostic data is transmitted to Sentry (a third-party service) for error monitoring. Weather, navigation data, and approach plate requests are made to aviationweather.gov, GitHub, and the FAA respectively, as described above. No other data is shared with third parties. Location data is never sent to the Service Provider or any third party.
What are my opt-out rights?
You can revoke location access at any time in the device's Settings app, without affecting any other part of the Application. You can stop all collection of information by the Application easily by uninstalling it. You may use the standard uninstall processes as may be available as part of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network.
Children
The Application is not used to knowingly solicit data from or market to children under the age of 13.
The Service Provider does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children. The Service Provider encourages all children to never submit any personally identifiable information through the Application and/or Services. The Service Provider encourages parents and legal guardians to monitor their children's Internet usage and to help enforce this Policy by instructing their children never to provide personally identifiable information through the Application and/or Services without their permission. If you have reason to believe that a child has provided personally identifiable information to the Service Provider through the Application and/or Services, please contact the Service Provider (apple@timothymorgan.info) so that they will be able to take the necessary actions. You must also be at least 16 years of age to consent to the processing of your personally identifiable information in your country (in some countries we may allow your parent or guardian to do so on your behalf).
Security
The Service Provider is concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. Location data never leaves your device. Crash and diagnostic data transmitted to Sentry is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS), as are all navigation and weather data requests.
Changes
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time for any reason. The Service Provider will notify you of any changes to their Privacy Policy by updating this page with the new Privacy Policy. You are advised to consult this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes, as continued use is deemed approval of all changes.
This privacy policy is effective as of .
Your Consent
By using the Application, you are consenting to the processing of your information as set forth in this Privacy Policy now and as amended by the Service Provider.
